Tradition satisfies my needs as an artist and designer in two ways. The traditions of India, from block printing to miniature painting, provide the inspiration for my design work. Even though the culture is so different to my English culture, the way in which the traditions are maintained and handed down from generation to generation are what so inspires me about them. My proposed work for this year and beyond is led by the traditional methods of printing onto paper, from etching to lino cuts and lithographs. Though I will be developing ways of reproducing the unique effects of these techniques on fabric, I am very aware of the depth of tradition and history behind each one and it informs the way in which my work develops.
